The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) was founded to harness the transformative potential of emerging digital technologies, especially blockchain, in combating climate change. Climate change poses a global crisis, impacting economies, livelihoods, and ecosystems, and we believe Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play crucial roles in tackling these challenges.

As a forward-thinking organization, BCI collaborates with governments, corporations, and international bodies to accelerate climate technology transfers. Through technical assistance and policy support, we aim to build capacity, create enabling environments, and deploy digital solutions that address pressing climate needs. Our global network of policy, legal, and technological experts drives regulatory development and fosters best practices for impactful climate action.

Our mission is twofold: to raise awareness of blockchain’s capacity to enhance climate efforts and to offer a collaborative platform for decision-makers and innovators to explore and implement viable solutions. Since our founding at COP23 in 2017, BCI has been dedicated to bridging the policy evidence gap and advancing equitable, sustainable climate solutions.

BCI’s work aligns with the UNFCCC Technology Transfer Framework, focusing on four pillars—capacity building, technology information, enabling environments, and technology transfer mechanisms. These pillars support governments and organizations in adopting advanced technologies across renewable energy, emissions management, resilience, and sustainable finance.

As we work with partners worldwide, BCI remains committed to driving climate resilience through inclusive, scalable digital innovations that create real impact. Together, we can advance a sustainable future for all.
