Blockchain-Based Climate Insurance – Fiji

A person wearing a straw hat and apron stands outdoors holding a basket of harvested peanuts and a garden tool, with green vegetation in the background.
What it was:
A feasibility study on using blockchain to support disaster risk insurance for communities vulnerable to climate-related events.
What we did:
BCI evaluated the technical and financial viability of decentralized insurance models tailored to Pacific Island nations.
How we did it:
In partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat and the UN Pacific Insurance & Climate Adaptation Programme, BCI’s Resilience Council assessed smart contract applications for fast, transparent payouts following extreme weather.
The Results:
The work laid the foundation for blockchain-backed microinsurance tools to be integrated into national adaptation strategies — offering a path to resilience financing for remote, high-risk regions.

Blockchain helps us deliver fast and fair support.
