Agricultural Insurance Innovation – Thailand

Agricultural Insurance Innovation – Thailand
Rows of green crops grow on a farm field surrounded by hills and trees under a partly cloudy sky.
What it was:
An extension of BCI’s climate insurance feasibility work, this project explored blockchain-backed crop insurance for Thailand’s agricultural sector.
What we did:
BCI investigated data gaps, stakeholder requirements, and the potential for tokenized climate coverage products to serve Thai farmers.
How we did it:
In collaboration with the UN Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN), the Government of Thailand (NXPO), and Thammasat University, we conducted a structured policy and tech assessment, tailored to regional needs.
The Results:
BCI’s recommendations informed early-stage discussions on digital insurance policy and set a precedent for blockchain-based risk tools in Southeast Asia’s agricultural economy.

This work laid the groundwork for digital climate finance tailored to farmers, not just financiers.

Let’s Work Together

BCI is actively expanding its project portfolio with like-minded partners around the world.

If you are interested in deploying climate technologies at scale or piloting a new approach, we’d be glad to hear from you.
